I
have never boarded my cat before. Should I worry?
Relax. Cat owners/parents can feel confident and worry-free
about their decision to place their cat in the care of The Catnap
Country Inn. As cat owners ourselves, we know boarding your cat
is typically much more stressful for the owner than the cat. That's
why we've created the Catnap Country Inn - a revolutionary concept
in overnight care. We've gone to every extent to ensure you have
peace of mind that your cat will be safe, loved, and have a great
time while in our care. During your cat's stay, we understand that
you may want to check in on your cat to see how he/she's doing.
That's why we offer owners the ability to view their cat on our
web cams that view each cat in his or her own individual cat condo.
Want to know how your pet behaved while at The Catnap Country Inn?
Each cat's daily activities are continuously monitored on activity
sheets by our Catnap Care Specialists - providing you with a detailed
record of your cat's stay.

I've
thought about boarding my cat for the first time, but am wondering
if she will "fret," become depressed, and maybe not eat?
When your cat arrives at The Catnap Country Inn for the first
time, everything and everyone is new to the cat. To put your mind
at ease, we are experienced with this situation and know exactly
what to do to make your cat feel at ease, as well as safe and loved.
Once your cat is in its assigned condo, we give them a little while
to check out their environment. They very quickly instinctively
know they are in control of their space. We begin talking to them,
soothing and reassuring them that they are surrounded by cat lovers
who mean them no harm. Cats are very instinctive animals and they
know when a human is a cat lover. Soon we are petting and scratching
their head, and they are responding to our gentle advances with
rubbing of their own.

Does
The Catnap Country Inn mix cats from different families together?
No, never. Our condo units at The Catnap Country Inn were carefully
designed to make sure cats can't even see another cat above, below
or on either side. Their condo is private, kept immaculately clean
and sanitized daily.

|
How
long will you board a cat?
For as long as the cat owner needs us to board your cat. However,
we do require a minimum 2-day stay.

| |
|
Do
you board other animals other than cats?
No,
just cats. Because we are proud of concentrating on caring for cats
only. Because that is what we do best!

My
cat was previously unhappy in a kennel. I do admit that the other
kennel also boarded dogs, and the cat accommodations were not special.
What do you offer at The Catnap Country Inn that will make my cat
happy during his/her stay with you?
The
Catnap Country Inn is strictly "For Cats Only"! We have
no dogs barking in the background; our background sounds consist
of soft music. Our environment is immaculately clean! (a cat won't
tolerate anything less, of course!) Our feline guests' accommodation
choices are spacious, custom-designed condos and are sanitized daily.
The entire Inn was designed for cats' happiness, safety, contentment,
entertainment and security. Our staff is made up of all cat owners
and devoted cat lovers, who understand and fulfill all your cats'
needs and desires.

What
socializing and individual attention will my cat receive? Is there
an activity program of any kind for my cat?
As
our saying goes: All our guests receive oodles of cuddles and "pampurring."
They also get combing, and brushing in their own
condo various times of day. We believe in spending a lot of time
bonding and social time with the cats so that they get to know us
and trust us. This will be evident on pickup. Please don't be jealous
if your cat is perfectly happy in our arms. Be happy knowing you
made the right choice for your cat's happiness and contentment in
your absence, and book your future reservations.

My
cat can be aggressive to people. Can she still be a guest at the
Inn?
Yes,
absolutely. We have found that our "no dogs" policy, coupled
with the design of the cat's condo, which allows absolutely no contact
whatever, visually or physically, with another cat, works wonders
towards calming your cat down and changing its disposition. The
gentle and loving nature or our Staff, as well as the immaculately
clean environment, wonderful food, and gourmet treats, and lots
of entertainment that cats love, all work together to provide a
wonderful boarding experience for your cat.

Does
my cat have its own private condo at all times during his stay?
Yes,
absolutely. We NEVER allow your cat to have contact with another
cat. Your cat has its own condo for the duration of its stay at
the Inn.

My
cat is 16-years old, and he is a diabetic on insulin? Are you qualified
to care for my cat?
Yes,
absolutely. Remember, we are part of a specialty veterinary clinic
that routinely deals with diseases of elderly and geriatric older
cats, and therefore, are trained to care for these cats. We spend
a lot of time with these geriatric cats with medical problems, shower
them with love and tenderness, and monitor their water and food
intake very closely. We own older cats of our own and understand
your anxiety. We will take care of them
as if they were our own.

|
How
will my cat be boarded? I have seen catteries where 10-15 cats share
a common area?
For
obvious reasons, we do not ever board cats together unless they
are from the same family. We have several styles of condo, one of
which was designed to allow boarding for up to 3-4 cats from the
same family. However, we would never allow your cats to have any
contact with any other cat from another family.

Can
we bring our cat's favorite toys, food dish, or blanket?
Yes,
with a qualification. Please don't bring food dishes as ours are
custom fit for the condo and go through a sanitizing system. And
please do not bring large items like carpeted condo or a scratching
post. Some belongings are not allowed, such as glass dishes or breakable
items. All belongings must be labeled or made easy for our attendants
to identify in some way. You are welcome to bring a towel or item
of clothing, as well as cat toys, and we will see that they are
put in your cat's condo. But please be aware that any cloth items
will be washed and if toys get dropped in a soiled litter pan, they
are discarded with the litter. And there is a chance that in the
cleaning process, the item of clothing or towel can be lost, damaged,
or disposed of and we cannot be held responsible for any of these
items. We urge you not to bring anything of value that you or your
cat couldn't live without, or that you would be upset to lose. Remember
that you don't have to bring many of your own cat's toys because
we have a large assortment of toys in the playroom. We usually give
them a catnip mouse on check in, a favorite toy by our cats. Our
staff will make every effort humanly possible in good faith to return
all your cats' belongings to you on check out. Occasionally this
may not be possible despite our greatest efforts to be perfect in
this category. We appreciate your understanding in this regard.
We cannot be responsible for anything left after pickup as everything
in the cat's condo will be sanitized and items left will be discarded.

Can
I leave my cat's carrier at the Inn during my cat's stay there?
Your
cat is required to arrive in a secure individual cat carrier, for
your cat's safety. We have a storage room for your carrier so you
are allowed to leave it.

|
My
cat uses the "out of doors" as a litter box. Will he adapt
to the litter and litter box you provide?
Yes, using litter is instinctive for cats. We have never had
any cat have any trouble adapting to the litter box. Cats are smart
and fastidious, and they quickly understand where to eliminate.

|
I
don't want to change my cat's diet during his stay at the Inn. Can
you give him the same food I do?
Yes. Bring your cat's food along with written instructions.
We have a refrigerator for perishables, as well as a kitchen area
for preparing the cat food if needed. Your instructions will be
noted on the "Special Feeding" Portion of the card on
your cat's condo.

What
vaccinations are required to board my cat at The Catnap Country
Inn?
For
the health and safety of all guests, all cats must be current on
their vaccinations prior to check-in. This is done for the safety
of your cat as well as all of the other boarded cats.
Our
recommendations are based upon the guidelines from organizations
such as The Cornell Feline Health Center, the American Association
of Feline Practitioners, and the Academy of Feline Medicine Advisory
Panel on Feline Vaccines. After the initial series of kitten shots,
the FVRCP vaccine, one of the most commonly administered combination
vaccines for cats, is recommended at 1-year of age and then at 3-year
intervals. Under New York State law, cats must receive their first
rabies vaccination no later than 4 months of age, with a second
rabies shot given within one year of the first vaccination. Additional
booster shots should be given every 1 or 3 years after that, depending
on the vaccine used.
FVR
stands for feline rhinotracheitis, an upper respiratory infection
resulting in conjunctivitis, sneezing, nasal discharge, eye lesions
and occasional coughing. The letter C stands for calicivirus, a
virus that can cause similar respiratory signs. These diseases account
for 95% of upper respiratory infections in cats. Many adult cats
are carriers, even though they may have no signs themselves of the
disease. The P is for panleukemia or known as "feline distemper
virus." This disease causes vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite,
fever and sudden death in cats. A sign of distemper is a yellow
fluid discharge from a cats eyes, particularly found in stray cats.
Although
the incidence of rabies in cats is relatively low, even indoor cats
are at risk, as bats do enter homes. Rabies is always fatal in an
unprotected cat, vaccination of all cats for this zoonotic disease
is highly recommended.
All
vaccinations must be given at least 48 hours prior to arrival, with
the exception of the Rabies vaccination, which should be given 14
days prior to arrival when given for the first time.

|
Can
my cat still be admitted to your kennel without a current vaccination
certificate?
Not
unless your veterinarian deems your cat to be of an age or immune
status whereby your cat cannot be benefited from vaccination, and/or
your cat has been assessed as fit and healthy by our veterinarian
or nurse prior to its stay at the Inn.

|
What
special medical services for cats can you provide if I board my
cat at the Inn?
We
are part of a specialty veterinarian clinic, and therefore we are
specialists in the treatment of feline diabetes. As a veterinary
clinic, we are also trained to administer pills, give other shots,
ear and eye ointments, and change bandages.

|
If
my cat becomes ill during boarding and needs veterinary care during
her stay, how is that handled? Can my cat be transferred to my regular
veterinarian's hospital?
As
will be explained in detail when you sign the Inn's registration
form, we reserve the right and you give us permission to make medical
decisions on your cat's behalf in your absence. Of course, we will
attempt to contact you by phone or email if your cat becomes ill
and requires medical care. If
a contagious disease is suspected, your cat will be transferred
into our isolation ward.
We
always attempt to contact your cat's regular veterinarian prior
to any medical treatment, but should your vet not be available (especially
if it is an emergency), you give us permission to have one of our
staff veterinarians care for your cat. You also agree to be responsible
for the charges.
We
suggest you leave credit card information and instructions with
your regular veterinarian whenever you go away, so it is on file
in case of an emergency. This is certainly most important for cat
owners who are either going to be unreachable by phone or out of
the United States to have this prior arrangement with their veterinarian.

|
How
do you handle flea control in your premises?
We
maintain a totally flea-free environment. All cats are checked on
check in for any signs of flea or flea debris. If found, the cat
will be treated with a fleas medication (either Advantage or Frontline)
and then be put into its condo. If any evidence of fleas is found your cat will be treated at an additional charge.
If
you know your kitty has fleas, please make sure you administer Frontline
or Advantage for cats, at least a week prior to boarding.
Remember,
if your cat has fleas, the flea live in their home environment.
Even if your cat is treated for fleas at The Catnap Country Inn,
the instant your cat is back home, there will be literally millions
of hungry fleas ready to jump back on your cat. Therefore, we recommend
that while you are away and your cat is boarding, you should have
your home fumigated and your yard treated for fleas. Otherwise,
the cycle will start again and your cat may become re-infested.

|
How
do you prevent or diminish the chance of my cat catching an infectious
disease?
Your
cat is boarded in a totally private condo, with no possible contact
with any other cat! In addition, the cat condos are all sanitized
daily, the tile floors are sterilized every morning. Once a guest
at The Catnap Country Inn goes back home, all of the used food and
water dishes are sterilized, as well as the litter pan. All these
precautions are taken to insure your cats are in the cleanest environment
humanly possible and every possible venue is used to keep them healthy.
Also,
we require proof of vaccination from every cat owner prior to boarding.
This is because we want to protect the health of your cat, as well
as the health of the other cats boarding at the Inn at the same
time.
Although
we would never admit a cat to the Inn that is showing signs of a
contagious disease, if any cat does develop signs during their stay,
they would be transferred into our isolation ward.

What
happens during severe inclement weather (i.e., a severe snowstorm)
situations? Will my cat still be cared for by one of your staff
members?
All
of our staff members (nurses and doctors) drive all-wheel drive
or 4-wheel drive vehicles, enabling them to travel in very severe
weather. The Inn also has accommodations for its staff, so they
can stay at the Inn during such emergency situations if necessary.

I'd
like to tour The Catnap Country Inn before I board my cat. How is
that arranged?
Call 914-864-1631 and we will be happy to schedule a tour anytime during business
hours except on busy pre-holiday check-ins when there simply is
not enough time. You can also log into our website and check out
The Catnap Country Inn facilities by looking at our internet cameras
(web cams).

If
I am in town, can I visit my cat while she is being boarded at The
Catnap Country Inn?
Yes,
of course. We take care of cats for a variety of reasons besides
owners going on vacation. We love to have people visit their cats.
During high summer and holiday season, visitation times are limited
so make sure to arrange ahead of time.

|
Why
is everything done by appointment? Why can't I just drop in and
drop off my cat at the Inn whenever I want?
There
are several reasons why you need to schedule your cat's check-in
time. We need to be able to give you undivided attention for about
15 minutes when you are checking your cat(s) into the Inn. Besides
signing the paper-work, your cat will be examined, placed in his
or her individual condo, and given fresh, cold water, etc.
Also,
the care of the cats at the Inn has a very strict routine: feeding
times, play times with the staff, nap times, brushing and combing
times; everything is done on schedule, including tours, check-ins
and check-outs.

What
forms of payment are accepted?
We
accept cash, checks, and money orders. We also accept most major
credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

| |
|
How
do you calculate the daily boarding charges at the Inn?
No
matter what time you bring your cat to the Inn for check-in, that
day counts for one day of boarding charges. On the day of check-out,
if you pick your cat up in the morning before noon, there is no
charge for that day. If you pick your cat up in the afternoon or
evening (after 12:00 noon), another day is added to your account.

Does
The Catnap Country Inn require a deposit to hold a reservation?
Yes,
during holiday periods there is a non-refundable $100 required.
Once we are fully booked, we stop taking reservations. You will
appreciate this when you make a reservation because you can rest
assured a cat condo will be available and ready for your cat(s)
on check-in.

|
How
early do I need to call to be sure to get a Reservation?
Call
about a week before you need to board your cat during slower months.
But, for major holidays, make your reservations as soon as you can. Please let us know at your earliest convenience. We will always do our best to accomodate your needs!

Other
than when I am going away for vacation, what are some other occasions
when I might want my cat to stay at The Catnap Country Inn?
There
are many times when The Catnap Country Inn can help you and your cat. |
|
Here
are a few suggestions (but, we know after you try us, you'll think
of more occasions to bring your cat for a visit):
- Post-treatment hyperthyroid (2 weeks)
- Business
travel
- Holidays,
birthday parties, other special events when you don't want to
worry about your four-legged friend getting in the snack bowl!
- Allergic
house guests
- Work
done to the house (i.e., carpets or pool being cleaned, sprayed
for bugs)
- Showing
the house for sale/moving
- A
new baby in the house; your pet (and YOU) need time to adjust
- An
older dog or "only child" that could benefit from some exercise
and socialization
